dialectical behavior
therapy

what is DBT?

DBT is one area of therapy that I'm especially passionate about. Dialectical behavior therapy, or DBT, is a form of therapy that focuses on how people interact with the world, themselves, and others.

Originally developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., to help people struggling with emotional regulation and self-destructive behaviors, over the years it's been shown to help with a wide variety of mental health diagnoses including borderline personality disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and substance use disorder.

The "dialectic" in dialectical behavior therapy acknowledges that, sometimes, two opposing ideas can both be true. DBT teaches skills to navigate these complex situations so that people can live more peaceful, effective lives.
